Oppo has gone ahead and made the pre-orders live for the upcoming Reno 5 smartphones, Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro
Oppo Reno 5 series is launching in China on December 10. But the company seems to be very excited about this launch, which is why it has jumped the gun and made the pre-orders for the Reno 5 series smartphones live on an e-commerce website. Contrary to the leaks, the listings confirm there will be two initial models under the Reno 5 series, the Reno 5 and the Reno 5 Pro. Neither Oppo website nor e-commerce website hint at Reno 5 Pro+, which has been heavily rumoured so far.
The Oppo Reno 5 will be the marquee device in the series while the Reno 5 Pro will bring some better specifications. Oppo has listed the two devices along with their images on its China website. So the look of the two devices, their variants, and only a few specifications details are available but rest of the things are likely to be announced on the launch day, which is December 10. The two smartphones have also been listed for pre-orders on China's popular e-commerce website JD.com.
JD.com is accepting pre-orders for both Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro, revealing the memory variants. Both the smartphones will arrive in 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and 12GB RAM and 256GB storage models in China. They will also have nearly identical colourways in the shades of blue, black, and turquoise. The names for these colour variants are not clear, however. The prices of these two smartphones are not mentioned right now, simply because that is something the company is reserving to make public on the launch day.
Going by the images available via both Oppo website and JD.com, the Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro do look like how some previously-leaked renders have imagined them. The design is very much like the Reno 4 series, except for some embellishments on the glossy design. There seem to be four cameras on both Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro on their back while the front camera will be housed in a punch-hole setup. There are curved-edge displays on the Reno 5 Pro while the Reno 5 has a flat screen, much like those on the Reno 4 series.
Interestingly, the Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro are listed with 65W fast charging on the website, however, the battery specifications are not available. Rumours have suggested there could be 4000mAh batteries on the two smartphones. Apart from this, there is nothing else these listings have confirmed so far. Which is why we will have to revisit what the rumour mill has been saying about the Reno 5 series.
According to reports, the Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro will be 5G devices. The former will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor while the top variant will use a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor inside. Both are said to come with a 64MP main camera on the back, along with Android 11-based ColorOS 11. The rumours have also strongly pointed towards the existence of a third, top-level variant called the Reno 5 Pro+, which is going to be the flagship kind technically.
The Oppo Reno 5 Pro+ is said to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, which powers the Find X2 flagship smartphones. Although Qualcomm has announced the next flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset, it is not available in the market yet. It will only arrive sometime in late January. Until then, the Snapdragon 865 and its Snapdragon 865+ variant remain to be the fastest chipsets for Android, hence, making Reno 5 Pro+ match the flagship level. For now, the future of Reno 5 Pro+ seems uncertain as Oppo has only divulged the information about the Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro
